To engage with cutting-edge international knowledge and best practices, and to provide valuable references for the development of underwater archaeology and cultural heritage preservation in Taiwan, the Research Center for Underwater Archaeology and Heritage at National Tsing Hua University (NTHU) will host the International Workshop on Underwater Archaeology and Cultural Heritage: Current Status and Future Trends on September 16th–17th, 2025, at the Mo-Jen Wang & An-Yi Chou Literature Museum, National Tsing Hua University, Hsinchu, Taiwan.

The workshop is co-organized with the Bureau of Cultural Heritage, Ministry of Culture, and the project “Austronesian Connection: New Horizon for Interdisciplinary Research.” We warmly welcome scholars, professionals, students, and all those interested in underwater archaeology and the preservation of underwater cultural heritage to join this event.

This international workshop will feature seven distinguished scholars from the United Kingdom, the United States, the Philippines, Japan, and Korea, covering expertise in underwater archaeology, heritage conservation, and public outreach. In addition, three Taiwanese scholars will present their research on underwater survey techniques, archaeology, and conservation.

The workshop will be structured around three major sessions:

• Current Status of Local Development: Presenting Taiwan’s research achievements and visions for the future.
• Stones from Other Hills: Drawing on the experiences of the Philippines, Korea, and Japan in underwater archaeology.
• Special Topics: Exploring case studies of maritime archaeology from around the world.

The event will conclude with a roundtable discussion, encouraging dialogue and fostering future collaboration across borders.
